About the artwork
For children in the highlands, ethnic minorities, from a young age they have to go to school away from home. To get letters, they had to be independent from a young age. At that age, friends of the same age were picked up by their parents and taken care of by their parents for every bite of food and sleep. But the children in the mountains have to leave their parents to live on their own. But they do not feel discouraged because they know that if they know the words, they can make the life of their family in their village better. Then they will become useful people to society. In his painting Going to School Far Away, artist Ly Duoc created the image of children wearing bright red scarves with smiling mouths carrying school bags in the dark. Laughter tore through the silence and opened it up to a new space full of children’s hope.
